Wisdom

Breast Kindness and Beyond: A Holistic and Interactive Workshop

with Maya Bolman and Lisa Lahey

Maya will teach us how to assess and manage common lactation challenges such as engorgement, breast inflammation ("plugged ducts"), mastitis, oversupply, and insufficient milk production. Attendees will develop the ability to effectively teach these accessible, evidence-based methods to lactating parents for independent use.

Lisa will lead us in learning how to integrate oral motor exercises, movement, massage, and play to optimize feeding outcomes. Through lecture and hands-on practice, you'll gain practical skills to teach parents therapeutic activities that build connection while improving function. You will walk away with techniques that transform your practice.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Attendees will learn assessment and treatment strategies for complex feeding challenges including tethered oral tissues, oral motor dysfunction, and breast conditions.

  • Attendees will gain hands-on skills in gentle manual therapeutic techniques including Therapeutic Breast Massage, Mindful Hand Expression, Breast Gymnastics, Reverse Pressure Softening, Mindful Latching, and Soft Stretching Techniques.

Approved for 12 L-CERPs

  • Certificate of Attendance will be provided at the end of Day 2.

  • What is an L-CERP? Read more HERE.

  • An itemized invoice will be provided for attendees receiving reimbursement from their employers.

About the Speakers:

Maya Bolman, RN, BA, BSN, IBCLC, FILCA

Maya received her IBCLC certification in 2001 after working as a postpartum floor nurse. In total, she worked at the Cleveland Clinic’s Hillcrest Hospital for 26 years in the postpartum and lactation departments. Additionally, she works at Breastfeeding Medicine of Northeast Ohio, under the auspices of Senders Pediatrics.

Maya is passionate about teaching consultants and parents about her world-renowned, easy-to-implement techniques in breast massage. Maya’s passion stems in part from her great aunt Reeva, who worked as a nurse-midwife in Minsk, Belarus, and introduced her to therapeutic breast massage before the technique had a name.

Lisa Lahey, FNP-C, IBCLC, CSOM

Lisa grew up in Indianapolis and continues to live and love this town with her husband, 5 children and family. A nurse practitioner and international board certified lactation consultant with 25 years of experience in maternal child health first working in the hospital settings of labor and delivery, postpartum , NICU, newborn nursery, and perinatal education before starting her own private practice 8 years ago.

Lisa has expertise in tongue and lip ties and their impact on feeding, oral development and the field of myofunctional therapy. Her passion and expertise has helped her learn more through many courses and trainings over the years from The Coulson Institute of Orofacial Myology, Breathe Well Ortho Postural education program, and The Breathe Institute. Lisa is a co author of the book Tongue Tied available on Amazon.

Wellness

This event takes a different approach. The meeting space is filled with natural light with views of beautiful vineyards and redwood trees. Interactive learning flows naturally alongside self-care, and time for reflection.

Burnout among perinatal professionals isn't just a personal challenge—it's a community health issue. When birth workers are depleted, families receive less than optimal care. By investing in your own well-being, you're truly investing in the families you serve. I call this the ripple effect.

Soulwise Community gatherings provide a sustainable model for integrating wellness into your practice and creating the support networks that keep our work viable over the long term.

Our Stay at the Ranch House

We'll be staying together in the Ranch House, a beautiful two-story, Spanish-style brick home built in 1930. The house offers plenty of room to gather with the group or slip away for some quiet time.

This stunning house features 15 bedrooms and 15 bathrooms (all bathrooms are en-suite), comfortably accommodating our group with no more than two people per bedroom. Each bedroom includes its own private bathroom with a shower, ensuring privacy and convenience for all guests.

The home's common areas include a living room with a stone fireplace, a sun room, a library, a formal dining room, and a full kitchen. Outside, a large courtyard with a fire pit provides a beautiful gathering space. A labyrinth and swimming pool are just steps away, and multiple hiking trails surround the property.

We will enjoy our meals together in the dining hall - a 1 minute walk from the house.
